
Introduction on the European Management of Migration in the Eastern Mediterranean
1st lecture of the Educational Seminar “European Management of Migration in the Eastern Mediterranean: EU, Turkey and Greece”
The opening lecture of the first round of educational seminars titled “European Management of Migration in the Eastern Mediterranean: EU, Turkey and Greece” organized by the Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence of the University of Athens took place on Monday 30 October 2017 in Athens. The subject of the lecture was “Introduction on the European Management of Migration”. Keynote speaker of the lecture was Dimitris Avramopoulos, European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship.
Participants of the seminar are lawyers, executives of the Public Administration dealing with immigration, refugees, border management and asylum issues, executives of the Hellenic Police Force, the Coast Guard, the Armed Forces, representatives of regional authorities, researchers from different Universities, as well as representatives of NGOs and the civil society. Participants were selected on the basis of a combination of relevant studies, practical experience and social criteria.
The seminar takes place within the framework of the Erasmus+ project “European Governance of Migration: The External Dimensions (EGMED)” (2017-2020), co-funded by the European Commission and the University of Athens. The Scientific Coordinator of the project is Professor Yannis Valinakis, President of the Jean Monnet European Center of Excellence at the University of Athens.
